Good afternoon

Welcome to your afternoon update from the News Letter.

In Coronavirus news travel firms are calling on the Northern Ireland Executive to ‘pay out grants they promised’. Last week, June 23, saw travel groups from across NI attend Parliament Buildings in Stormont to lobby. Damien Murphy of Terra Travel founded ANITA, Association of Northern Ireland Travel Agents in April 2020 and is currently chairman. It organised the NI Day of Action.

Holidaymakers have more options for a trip abroad from today (30 June) as 16 more countries are added to the UK’s travel green list. Travellers arriving in the UK from countries on the list will no longer have to quarantine on the return, with the changes to the list taking effect as of 4am on Wednesday.

In other news the Northern Ireland Protocol is not unlawful, Belfast High Court has ruled, rejecting an argument by the leaders of unionism that it breaches the Act of Union and the Belfast Agreement. In a momentous constitutional ruling, Mr Justice Colton found that the protocol – which creates the Irish Sea border – conflicts with the 1800 Act of Union, but that legislation enacting the protocol in Parliament has repealed part of the Act of Union.

The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland has confirmed changes to the way in which the Twelfth will be celebrated next month. The 331st anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne will be marked at around 100 locations on Monday, July 12. With less than two weeks to go, the Orange Institution has confirmed that the public will be able to enjoy the traditional sights and sounds of the Twelfth of July demonstrations closer to home as localised parades are set to take centre stage.
